It’s hard not to notice the full trash and recycling container on collection days in December, but did you know that Americans generate 25 percent more waste, per household, during the holiday season? That is nearly 1,000 pounds of trash, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, of which roughly 80 percent could be recycled or repurposed."

To secure you and your family from data theft and to ensure the hazardous material doesn’t harm our environment; electronics need to be disposed of differently than other waste."
Free yellow trash bags are available for you to pick up from the DPW and use for cleaning up.

When the bag is full, tie closed and call DPW (978)281-9785 to give pickup address
If you purchase your own covered barrel to use for recycling you can get a "Recycle" sticker from the DPW for it.

One-time use plastic grocery bags will be banned in Gloucester in 2019. Start early by getting your own reusable bags to use each time you shop!
Some stores like Market Basket also offer the option to use boxes to take your groceries home in.
Pick up your dogs poop when out and about. Also make sure you take the dog poop bags home to dispose of.
Respect the space that we all share.
- Use covered barrels
- Prevent trash and recycling from blowing away on windy days
- Put trash out morning of instead of night before to discourage animals from getting in
(Ex. potholes, picking up yellow bags, abandoned large items, putting up signs where needed, etc.)
